Showa Spa
Enjoying hot spring under the broad sky
This is a hot spring facility made inside Miroku no Sato, a theme park in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Miroku no Sato has attractions that replicate the streetscape in the Showa 30s period (1950s and 1960s). This facility was planned to be in a place connected to that area, so we made maximum use of that “Showa streetscape”. The bathing building was added and the resting place and restaurant facilities use the existing place that was renovated.
Design Memos
- Though it is made inside a theme park, we tried to realize an outside bath where you can “bathe in the hot spring in the nature comfortably”. In order to do this, we designed the garden part broadly and aimed to make the sky look bigger.
- We tried to blur the boundary between the inside and outside by connecting the inside bath and the outside bath visually through the low windows and emphasizing the horizontal extent.
