A house to live with a cat

This is a reforming of a housing in an apartment in Koto Ward, Tokyo. We offered a house for a married couple and a beautiful cat to live in.

Space configurations

• This is a space made for a cat and humans to live comfortably.
• We designed the 3 stories high with a roof terrace and the catwalk spreading from the roof terrace.
• The clients’ desire was to get rid of the well-known bouncy feeling and the brightly coated texture of the directly adhering flooring that can often be seen in apartments. So, we exchanged it to a 3-layer flooring using 4mm pure wood on the surface, and realizing the noise barrier performance mentioned in the bylaw of the apartment maintenance.
• Since the exchange of the flooring made the floor higher than before, the lower part of the doors and windows had to be cut. Also, where the steps are formed were cleared by making a gentle slope, making the repair work considerate of barrier-free aspects.
