House in Shingai

トップ写真

Having depth and perspective,
moreover hospitality for guests

A house built for a husband and wife in their 40s with 3 kids. Rice fields, farmlands and houses are scattered around. Since the other houses around are built low, the sky feels broad and the beautiful mountains beyond can be viewed as if they are all yours.

The design of the house enjoys a benefit from approximately 500 sqm land and tries to give “depth” in spaces and be blessed with sunlight and breezes. Also, for the house owner, who is companionable and always value “caring for others”, it aims to make all guests comfortable during their visit and produces even the approach between the gate and the entrance enjoyable as well.

Desires from the client

  • Making use of the broad land, they wanted the place to be spacious inside and outside.

Space configurations

  • Develop the volume of space as you go further into the storeroom, from the flat building, the inside garden, and to the 2nd floor. In this way, you can see through to the other end from the street side and feel the depth. Also, by making the southern side of the inner garden a flat building, the space became even more bright, breezy, and comfortable. Since there are gabled roof on every building, the outside view is rhythmical and in harmony with the mountains in the background.
  • One-story room on the south of the courtyard allows more sunlight and ventilation overall in the house.
  • The gable roofs harmonize the mountains in the background.
  • Green lawn grass and home garden in the front yard, the open entrance hall connected with a Japanese guest room and tamo trees in the courtyard viewed in front….these all welcome guests.
  • The street, the gate, the front yard, the entrance, the courtyard, the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen become one big connected space by opening up the doors and windows. You can reach to the dining room without taking off shoes.
  • Interiors are designed to be natural and tender. Mainly using tamo woods produces grace in spaces.
